Undergraduate Admission Requirements

Admission Dates and Fees

Applications and required admission documents must be submitted by the following dates. Early submission of documents will enable qualified students to participate in registration at their scheduled times.

Late applications will be considered after the Application Due Date if the student is a citizen or permanent resident of the U.S., submits all documentation required to make the admission decision prior to the Document Deadline, and submits a non-refundable $15 late application fee. Payment of late application fee does not ensure admission or the availability of classes. Admission files completed after the Document Deadline will be considered for the following semester.

Documents

All admission documents must be submitted directly to the Admissions Office. Official transcripts should be sent directly from the schools attended, and official test scores should be sent directly from the appropriate testing agency. The Admissions Office notifies each student about the specific documents that must be submitted, and all documents received become part of the official files of the University and cannot be returned. For early notification of acceptance, verification of test scores, approximate class rank, and expected date of graduation should be sent directly from the high school to the Admissions Office. After Graduation, a final official transcript indicating final rank and graduation date must be submitted. ALL DOCUMENTS MUST BE RECEIVED BEFORE AN ADMISSIONS DECISION CAN BE MADE.

Applicants Who Graduated from High School within the Past 5 Years.

SUBMIT:

Application; official SAT or ACT scores; final or official transcript.

Eligibility for admission to the University is based on high school graduation rank and admission test scores. The Scholastic Achievement Test (SAT) or the American College Test (ACT) is required for admission to the University.

Test score requirements for regular admission beginning Fall 2001:

Applicants Who Graduated from a Non-U.S. High School within the Past 5 Years

SUBMIT:

Application; official high school transcript; official SAT, ACT, TOEFL, OR PAA scores.

Applicants who graduated from high school outside the U.S. must demonstrate proficiency in English that will enable them to pursue university level work successfully. The SAT or ACT must be taken by applicants whose secondary education was in English. For tests taken after April 1, 1995, an SAT total of 920 with a minimum of 460 on the Verbal is required. º£½ÇÉçÇøs taking the ACT must score 20 or higher on the Composite, with a minimum of 21 on the English section.

The TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) must be taken by applicants whose secondary education was not English; a score of 500 is required

The PAA (Prueba de Aptitud Academica) is an option for applicants whose secondary education was in Spanish and who are not proficient enough in English to pass the TOEFL; a total score of 1,000 is required. Applicants admitted on the basis of PAA scores enroll as Inter-American Science and Humanities Program majors in the College of Liberal Arts. º£½ÇÉçÇøs admitted into this bilingual program are limited to regular university courses taught in Spanish and ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) courses. Once the ESOL 5110 has been completed with a grade of "C or better," the student may change majors.

After being admitted to the university, students whose secondary education was not in English must take the SLEP examination to determine appropriate English language placement.

Applicants Who Graduated from High School 5 or More Years Ago

SUBMIT:

Application; final, official high school transcript; TOEFL OR PAA scores (if applicable).

TOEFL scores of 500 or higher or PAA scores of 1,000 or higher may be required of applicants whose education was in a language other than English. After being admitted to the university, students whose secondary education was not in English must take the SLEP examination to determine appropriate English Language placement.
